The Canada Permanent Residency (PR) visa is a popular immigration option for Indian professionals. The application for the Canada PR visa is made through the Canadian government's point-based immigration systems. Two popular programs for applying for a permanent residency visa are the Express Entry program and the Provincial Nominee Program.

Here you will find information on the qualifying requirements, application steps, and papers needed to apply for permanent residence.

Express Entry application for permanent residence in Canada:

Step 1: Create your Express Entry profile

The first step is to create your Express Entry profile online. Credentials such as age, work experience, education, language ability, and so on should be included in the profile. Your profile will be scored based on these criteria.

If you have the required score, you can submit your profile, which will be added to the Express Entry pool along with the other profiles.

Step 2: Complete your ECA

If you received your education outside of Canada, you must complete an Educational Credentials Assessment, also known as an ECA. This is to demonstrate that your educational credentials are equivalent to those granted by the Canadian educational system.

Step 3: Complete your language ability tests

You should take the appropriate English language competence examinations as the next step in the Express Entry program. A score of 6 bands in IELTS is recommended. Your test score should be less than two years old at the time of application.

You will receive bonus points if you know French. You can demonstrate your ability in French by taking a French language test, such as the Test de Evaluation de Francians (TEF).

Step 4: Calculate your CRS score

The Express Entry pool is ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.  Your CRS score is determined by factors such as age, work experience, adaptability, and so on. If you have the required CRS score, your profile is included in the Express Entry pool.

Step 5: Obtain an Invitation to Apply (ITA)

If you meet the Express Entry minimal score, your profile is chosen from the Express Entry pool. After that, you will receive an ITA from the Canadian government, and you can begin the paperwork for your PR visa.

  • PR visa application under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP):
  •  If you choose the PNP to apply for your PR visa, follow these steps:
  • You must apply in the province or region in where you wish to live.
  • If your profile fits the eligibility conditions, the province may designate you to apply for a PR visa.
  • After being nominated by a province, you can apply for your PR visa.
  • While the criteria for considering the PR application vary by province, the eligibility conditions are comparable to those of the Express Entry Program.
  •  Once you have received your ITA, you must submit the necessary documentation.

To apply for a PR visa, Canada has several immigration programs. However, the Express Entry System and the Provincial Nominee Program are the most common means to obtain a visa. An immigration consultant will assist you in understanding the complexities of the PR application procedure and obtaining your visa on schedule.
